Founded in July 1999, the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA)
is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization developed to address the need for
resources, education, and professionalism in the fields of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
(EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL). EAP incorporates
horses experientially for emotional growth and learning. It is a collaborative
effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional working with the
clients and horses to address treatment goals. Activities with the horses are
designed to mimic real life issues. This allows the client and therapist to “see”
where the problems are and find solutions that work. Clients quickly recognize
unhealthy patterns and enact new behaviors. The horses don’t accept
“talk” - clients have to make sincere, life-long changes. EAL involves a similar
process but focuses on educational and human/organizational development goals
in this highly interactive and impactful learning approach.
EAGALA certified professionals utilize Equine Assisted
Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning to work
with a wide range of behavioral/mental health issues
and learning goals such as addictions, eating disorders,
behavioral disorders, abuse and trauma, recidivism,
personality disorders, autism, learning disabilities, anger
management, trauma, ADHD, at-risk youth, families and
couples, depression, stress management, coping skills,
aggressive behavior, team work, organizational development,
wellness, life and leadership skills and more...
